Dungeon Crawl: Links and Loves v.1

This is the very first episode of Dungeon Crawl, where I hack and slash my way through the murky depths of cyberspace, and recover some of the highlights. Here are the things that made The Razor Girl smile, think, hulk smash, or squeal recently (this is a long one!):

Women still make up the majority of moviegoers, prefer female superheroes. This just in, water is wet. A.V. Club is one place where the comments are invariably awesome.

This article about gender and heroes in children's books, and the power of reading to kids, is important and lovely. Bilbo is a wicked rad girl, love the adorable art too.

DC Multiversity! In August! Loud noises!

Super keen to check out this survey and discussion on Harry Potter fandom:
Harry Potter and the Millennials: Research Methods and the Politics of the Muggle Generation (John Hopkins University Press, 2013) reveals that readers of the seven-book series and viewers of the movie franchise tend be more open to diversity; politically tolerant; less authoritarian; less likely to support the use of deadly force or torture; more politically active; and are more likely to have a negative view of the Bush administration.1
I wonder whether that's a generational/education/economic level thing, or a Harry Potter fan thing? Curious to see what HP fans think.

 An ode to Wednesday Addams.

If you're in the vicinity, the Newcastle Art Gallery has their video art collection on display, including pieces by Shaun Gladwell, one of my favourite Australian artists. His work combines and distort the sublime and the mundane; his urban scenes are hypnotic and beautiful, and just a little post-apocalyptic (my favourite vibes). The gallery's under threat from the government, so go support them if you can!

And finally, please take some dreamy chiptunes with you on your intergalactic travels:

Stay safe!
